ABS light S70 1998

Hi. I have a 1998 S70 (normally aspirated) with about 58K miles. Recently, the ABS light has been coming on. It comes on and stays on in colder weather. The car drives fine otherwise.

Any thoughts on what could this indicate? Has there been a common or consistent problem with the ABS? Should I take out a second mortgage in anticipation of the repair? I figure I'll get it checked out at the 60K service in a little while.

Any help or insight is appreciated! Thanks!

- Bill

The abs control module is usually the suspect (especially if the TRACS light comes on, too). After checking out switches and sensors, my control module was replaced at a cost of about $350. If I were in less of a hurry, I would have tried a used one from a Volvo dismantler like b&d autoparts.

Probably the common problem of the ABS control module going south.

I have the same problem and the darn ABS lite come on and off so difficult to tell whether it's defective or working.

Is there a way to tell if I have TRACS on my S70?

That way, I can order the right replacement ABS control module.

        William,

There should be a switch on the right hand side behind your steering wheel for the TRACS, if you have TRACS on your S70 !!

This switch is there for you to switch off your TRACS, if necessary !, for

those times you want to have " fun " with your S70 or/ when you are going

        up a hill on a snow-covered road !

Your TRACS will be re-activated the next time you start your car again !!

Hope that helps !! ... good luck !

        Best Wishes,

        Kenny

Turn your key to the II position. All the caution lights come on for a few seconds. If you have traction control, a TRACS light should appear. If ordering from a dealer, they can tell from your VIN which module you should have.
