Power Steering Tube twisted off 850 96

I hope all the volvo heads can tell me what I do now. My girlfriend was driving the car home and called me to say that the car was hardly turning at all. It was difficult to steer more than a couple inches left or right. I met up with her and upon opening up the hood, I noticed that the upper threaded tube that carries the power steering fluid between the steering column and the power steering pump was unthreaded and hanging off. I threaded it back in and added some power steering fluid. Now the car turns left and right but there is a loud whine from the pump. Do I need to have the lines bled? Is the pump gone in this situation. I guess she drove a couple miles on it with the line loose.

Please help diagnose.

THanks

CSF

Re: Power Steering Tube twisted off 850 96

Strange. Those lines don't just unthread by themselves. The noise you hear is just air in the system and it'll bleed out by just driving assuming that the leak is fixed and that the resevoir is full.

Other than moving the steering wheel from stop to stop with the engine running, there is no bleeding technique.

Re: Power Steering Tube twisted off 850 96

thanks carl,

I filled the reservoir up a few times and did a few 3 point turns. Squeak gone. Pump is fortunately not ruined. I have no idea why the top line popped undid itself. Weird. It could be dangerous in certain situations
