Electric window movement is not smooth C70 2004

The drivers side electic window has begun to open and close irratically. The window always goes up and down but is not smooth. It acts as if it gets stuck and then catches up. As the window moves it goes up and down almost in steps as if the window sticks and then moves when the pressure is great enough. Anyone encountered this strange movememt? Just looking for input before I pull the door panel and take a look. Any words of wisdom regarding removal of the door panel? Thanks

The broken "guide" being refered to does not exist on the C70. The window regulator on your car is completely diferent from the 4 door cars. The usual suspects on C70 are broken/cracked rollers, cable slipped out of roller, cable stretched, etc. The regulator comprises the entire upper structural member at the top of the door with to rails with plastic glides going down to the bottom of the door. If you remove the regulator, note the presence or lack of shims at all bolts, including the rear view mirror which has to come off first. The shims are for adjustment.

Electric window regulator and roller replacement C70 2004

Thank you for this key information. I found the following link with a brilliant description of how to permanently repair/replace the offending roller (thank you Paul and your Dad!).

      http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php/topic/115086-how-to-c70-window-rollers-permanent-fix/

So has anyone tried this approach and can you add any more comments? And, does anyone have a source of already broken regulators that I could repair before taking my door apart? Any chance that new regulators have been upgraded to solve this problem?

Thanks again for all of the extremely helpful comments and information.

I don't have a c70 and haven't tried this but this looks like a great solution.

I love when the DIY-ers find a better way!

I think the little wrench setup he made might be useful for getting that stupid torx bolt out of the timing belt tensioner pulley as well.

Thanks for the education bob. I never would have guessed these cars were different in this area. I guess it makes sense with them being 2-door models...

My Honda did that - there was a guide inside that fell off that helps keep it on track as it rolls down into the door. Not sure what the inside of the volvo one looks like, but it was a relatively easy fix on that car once I got the panel off. Just snapped it back into place.
