Water leaking into my 97 wagon 850 1997

Water is somehow getting into my wagon, dripping from the upper right rear corner. I've taken the plastic molding down but because of the channel construction I can't find where it's coming from. It doesn't leak all the time when it rains. Sometimes I can drive around in wet weather for a couple of days, and then discover a small puddle of water in the back floor tray. Other rainy days, nothing. I have Eurorails, installed them myself, and was very careful to make sure there was mastic around the bolt holes when I seated the bolts. Is this water coming from farther up, like around the moonroof, and then down along the top right channel to leak out at the back? I thought possibly it was coming in through the hinge opening when I lifted the back door, but I checked and this doesn't seem to be the case. Am really frustrated and would appreciate any and all advice. Dick

Re: Water leaking into my 97 wagon 850 1997

I'd start by checking your r. side sunroof drains. Open the sunroof and carefully pour water into the outer part between the rail and roof edge. Water should then drain from both the front and back of the car, 2 drains per side. If the drains are not clogged, the bottom part of the sunroof assembly itself could be cracked as I've seen that once before but rare.

Another possibility is that perhaps your AC evap drain hose isn't properly hooked up under the radio. If the evap was ever replaced, the "tech" might have forgotten to re-install that hose thus the water will flood your interior instead of drain outside whenever the ACs on. I've seen that happen as well. To see that drain tube, you'll need to pull the carpet back and remove the plastic partition behind it on the r. side of the center console tunnel (but in front of the center console). That tube must be connected to a hole in the center of that tunnel area, below the radio.
