Transmission codes P1618 and P0810 V70-XC70 2001

The transmission of my 2001 V70 2.5T with 73K miles was behaving badly for some 20K miles - very rough disconnect when coming to stop, jumping to gear when standing with the brake pedal applied, rough engagement when start moving. This is all intermittent, 50% of the time, so when I took the car to a dealer they did not see the problem and confirmed that all software is up to date. They suggested to keep driving the car.

Transmission fluid has not been flushed, but the level is good in the color is not black - reddish-brown, which is normal.

ETM has a yellow sticker, so it was replaced some time before 35K miles.

Finally during of the rough jumps the transmission threw codes P1618 and P0810 and the message Transmission Service Required. Check engine light came up too.

I cleared the codes which cleared both the message and the Check Engine light.

Does any know if these codes can point to something that can fix the transmission? Or a new one is the only way?

Thank you,
Yuri

All software upgrades are current??? the p0810 = Clutch Position Control Malfunction, does sound like a software problem to me.

Because you cleared the codes, you need to wait until they come back before going back to the dealer for better diagnostics.

I specifically asked the dealer about the software, since I read somewhere that rough shifting can be fixed by SW download.

I am somewhat pissed by the V70. I had a 1995 850 before, loved it, drove to 190K miles and it was still good. The V70 is a great car as far as utility - large cargo space, very comfortable... But this is 21st century - can they make a damn transmission to work properly? The glove compartment door is squeaking non-stop. I took the whole thing apart, tighten and lubricated every possible place and it is still squeaking. I am driving with that door open.

I really hate to give up on a Volvo. I always liked the brand and was ready to forgive many things. But there are limits...

The 2001 had birthing pains as you found out. Volvo changed all of the electronics with the into of the P2 model and dealer techs still cannot figure them out.
Things were easier with older cars :) My 1967 220 has 4 fuses, but no power steering, brakes, or AC but everything needing to be fixed is straight forward.
