I'm working on a friends V70. The air hose that runs from the front bulkhead to the ECM housing is missing. How important is it? I'm in Maryland and it doesn't get too hot here. A replacement is $40.

Usually a junk yard item. The forward section to the radiator tends to break, but watch out for the section that goes to the cabin.

If you have a turbo, you really don't want to have a hot ECM :) On NA cars, the engine compartment doesn't get too hot.
