My wipers started to move slower and slower then eventually stopped moving all together. Do I need a new motor or is there a quick cheap fix? How do I get at the motor?

Take off the two 13mm nuts that hold the wiper arms on.......take the arms off.....remove all the torx screws on the cover above the wiper....unbolt the wiper transmission and unplug the motor.........you can buy a whole new assembly on ebay or just the motor, but if you just replace the motor, you might have to play around with the transmission assembly for a while to get the arms to stop right again. It's not a hard job. If you get a used transmission assembly, make sure they send you one with good splines on it....the part that you put the arms on.....if they are too worn, your amrs will slip....you might want to buy a haynes repair manual...see page 12-13 for the procedure to park and mark the frame.....

There is some problem with my 95 850 driver's side wiper. the splines were worn. After I tighten it up, there is no slips; but the wiper blade won't touch the windshield when it gets to the up position. Is there any fix for this? or I need to buy a used transmission?

Common problem on 850s. Just bend the base of the wiper arm down.

The arm by the base, next to the attachment bolt is quite pliable. All I have ever done is push down with the palm of my hand.

I think I did that (press down the arm). But it came right back to the original position. :-)

If it doesn't stay down, visit your local pick&pull. I think a 1998 will still fit, not sure about 99-00.

Before you jump for a new motor, spray the posts with WD40 or penetrating oil. Often, the salt gets in there and causes the post to bind, which then causes the motor to overheat and die.

The motor and linkage are under the engine compartment cover that sits in front of the windshield.
