155 upgrade caused my ETM to fail V70-XC70 1999

Hey everyone, just today my car went in for service and it needed the 155 software upgrade. after it was upgraded the ETM failed. I read that the ETM is covered under a 10yr or 200,000 mile extended warranty. would you have it my car was made april 1999 so i don't qualify but do correct me if i'm wrong. :) But here is my complaint. only when the 155 upgrade was performed did it fail. I was not notified of the upgrade so I didn't know the importance of it. My car has 173,000 miles on it. Is there any way I can recoup the $981 repair from volvo?

thanks in advance,

I have a ETC for your car. 50.00 plus shipping. Its been programmed and should work as a bolt up.

Did the ETM fail at the dealership or after you drove it home? If it failed at the dealership, ask them to contact the regional office for guidance. You should also call 1-800 Volvo number and register the problem, they will contact the dealer and might even help.

If you drove the car home and it failed later, I cannot see any recourse but to buy a 'fixed' ETM from XeMODeX, http://FixYourETM.com

I drove it away(2miles at most) and it stalled twice on me. I took it immediately back to the dealer. The mechanic test drove it and it "officialy" failed while he was driving it. It went into limp mode.

Then it is not your "fault". Look up the price for a XeMODeX fix and start negotiating with the dealer. Remember, the Volvo USA is in New Jersey, eastern time zone, and I suspect they are closed now.

Keep a 'smile' on your face when talking with the dealer and NJ. I would think 1/2 price of the ETM and no labor would be a win for you.
