850 Sputters, Dies

Hi,

My 850 which hasn't been running for a few months does a curious thing now. This car has been replaced by a VW Passat wagon as daily driver - awhh.

850 starts fine, runs fine, but once the engine is up to temperature when you put it into drive/reverse the engine sputters, misses, etc and then dies out. It then won't start again.

If you let it cool down it starts fine and will even drive fine until, it seems, everything is warm, and then it starts misbehaving.

Battery is new, and it turns overs really well. Even when it won't start, it's cranking well.

My thought was distributor getting warm and contacts missing.

850 wagon, no turbo, 300,000km, new fuel pump, new plugs, pretty new battery, and I try to do a good job of cleaning out PCV.

Thanks, Chris

My 240 did that before. Turns out the coil was overheating. Replaced it and ran fine after that.
