Greetings to all!

Need to replace the radio and most used SC-816 units on Ebay do not come with a security code. Is it easy to request the code for a unit from a dealer?

    I was very lucky and was able to find a good CD unit at the local pyp yard for only $25. The local dealer in Irvine CA supplied the code with only the radio serial number and VIN. Maybe they figured a thief wouldn't take the time to write down the VIN?

      Indeed, you had a good deal for the unit. I feel the units on Ebay are over priced since a good volvo 850 may only get $1500 bucks (if lucky)?

        Yes, I was extreemly lucky. When I was buying another part the radio happened to be just sitting there on a shelf next to the pay window. It was probably rejected by another buyer. I had been looking for a CD unit for a while but only could find the tape decks.

    I replaced my radio from via the dealer. Just so that I would have a CD player in the dash.

    Most parts depts will give you the code, but you need to supply the serial number for the radio or the VIN of the car it came from. Call a dealer before you bid. My cost for a guaranteed radio was $200 three years ago.

      I was able to get the code for my V70 from the dealer who sold the car (free of charge). Dealers may not be willing to honor requests for cars not sold by them. I guess I will get a unit with a code.

      was your replacement radio new?

    Some on eBay do include the code, you might consider waiting for one that does. Usually in those cases, seller knows the code because it was written on the outer label by the previous owner.
