Sticky Shiftlock Overide Button prevents Igniton key removal V70-XC70

Folks,
I had a weird one the other day with my 98 v70 glt.
I accidentally pressed the shift lock overide button on the Gear Selector.
(My other Volvo, a 940, requires this as I have not fixed it)
Selector went into gear.
When I returned the selector to park the switch would no longer go to the off position to allow the key to be removed. After carrying a second key to lock the door for a day I got inquisitive. The Shift lock did not appear to be all the way back up. I grabbed the button with a pair of pliers and was able to fully extend the button. I was not looking forward to tearing into the plastic console in freezing temperatures.
As the button has probably never been depressed in 11 years it probably has gummy lube or something similar.
Something to keep in the memory banks for future reference.

Happy Holidays,
John

I experienced the same problem last year, but spray did not help much. I was afraid of using too much and screwing something up, so I pried the button out of its slot with a small screwdriver. The button is not part of a switch but sits on top of the switch.

How about a small shot of WD40 to clean it up a bit?
I was just experiencing a sticky shift lock. The lever would not always return - especially in sub 20 degree weather.
Quick blast of WD and it is working fine again.
