locked up rear seatbelt V70-XC70

The right rear seat belt is locked up and under tension can't budge it, anybody got any ideas on how to release, owned the car a year, personally have never ridden in the backseat of any of my cars it's weird how some of the little things escape us, probably never would have realized it until a passenger of my car recently remarked on it.
Thanks
Miles

I used a pop rivet to replace my button. The button was there, but at the position that every few uses, the belt would lock up. I removed the factory button and every so lightly moved the location of the pop rivet and have not had a problem in over 1.5 years. Have kids and belt is used daily. Before, kept a ratchet and socket in the car to release as Klaus said. Unbolting the bottom anchor for the belt.

regards,

Keith

Flip the bottom cushion up, forward. Remove the bolt that holds the belt to the frame, give it a little slack and then pull the belt forward.
Sometimes, the little button on the seatbelt manages to get through the buckle, allowing the belt to retract too far. If the button is missing, get needle and thread and sew on another button in the proper location.

If the button is missing, and you replace it as Klaus suggests, be sure that the new button will pass through the belt buckle.

I should clarify my previous post. The button must pass freely through the buckle in order to tension the belt correctly across the lap of the user.

The purpose of the button is to prevent the belt from retracting into the take-up reel, as yours has done.

So, the button size must be large enough to prevent passage through the reel slot, but also small enough to pass through then buckle.

You can use the button on the left rear belt as a sample.
