I have a 2000 V40 - what's the price rang to have the timing belt replaced ? I don't want to get ripped off.

    That is why God invented the telephone. Call your local dealer, a couple of Indies and ask. Usually, they are honest and will not hassle you. The cost of the repair depends on your local labor rate, most of the repair is labor, the belt and tensioner are fairly cheap.
    In the Twin Cities area, the dealers charge $120/hr and Indies @ $100. I would suspect the 'book' rate is about 2 hours, so the job should take a mechanic less than 1 hour to do it.
