transmission fluid change S60

Hello , I jacked my car up and looked at my transmission. I pulled the plug and drained the fluid. I then put it the correct fluid through the dipstick. It took about 4 qts.

Is this the correct method?

What is a flush and what is the pros/cons vrs flush/drain?

Is there any thing else I need to do?

This weekend I am changing the fuel filter. I have never done this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2002 volvo s60 with 106k

    Robrun:
I have looked endlessly for a trans drain plug on my '01 S60.
    Just where is it???
    So I bought a pump.
Not used it yet, because it is too cold to work outside.
I have the correct 3309 fluid.

There are 2 methods of flushing the ATF. I like to disconnect the line to the radiator and flush the fluid using 10-12 quarts of new fluid. Other online sites suggest draining the fluid followed by a flush.
Draining the fluid usually results in 3.5 quarts draining out. You should have measured the amount drained and refilled with the same amount. You don't want to overfill. Remember, close to 8 quarts of ATF are in the tranny.

The fuel filter is not that hard, just clean off the fittings before you try to take them apart. They are taped and I suggest reapplying tape to keep dirt off the fittings when you are done. I use a 17/15mm box end wrench to help pull the fittings off. Make sure the engine has been off at least 15 minutes to let the fuel pressure drop to zero. A quick push on the schrader valve will verify zero pressure. Keep shop rags handy, and always wear safety glasses when under the car.

you will have good luck finding advice for both of these issues if you do a search on this site. The search tools on this board are quite good. Use the letters "AWD" as your first search term and it will keep results focused on this FWD/AWD board.

If you still have questions after doing the research please let us know.

Bay13 has a good writeup on changing the fuel filter in the pre-P2 cars:
