Cracked / Broken Radiator Mount 850

I did an overhaul today of my engines, timing and I noticed something disturbing... The driver’s side radiator mount had cracked. I don't know how long it has been cracked, but I just recently replaced the radiator with a genuine Volvo part less than two years ago. Since half of the mount was still there, I cut a piece of steel and sandwiched it between the old radiator mount and frame with a C clamp. Seems stable, but not sure if this has happen to anyone else before? The original part lasted 13 years this new one lasted less than two. Would you right Volvo? Grrr. Could someone confirm that if the mount breaks again the radiator should fall all the way out right?

Oh great news on the timing... I replaced the original (250k miles) Water pump, belt, tension and idle pulley along with the tensioner itself. The only thing that had play was the idler pulley. I probably could have gone another 70k with no problem.

I made the c clamp pretty tight this time since I don't want the piece of sheet metal to unsandwich between what's left of the mount. You think that's ok?

It will be worth checking after a few bumps and temperature swings. I never trust things that are not bolted down.

Nice catch! I would stop by the dealer and let them see it. Not that they will do anything about it, just an FYI. Especially the service manager. Someone screwed up and over tightened the mount, cracking it. A few bumps later let the mount fall off. The other side would have kept it in place until you hit a mother of an expansion bump.

As to the water pump, etc. Better safe than sorry? At least you know it is good to go for another 200K :)
