Oil leak - Rear main and front seal S70 1998

After having the engine steam cleaned started losing oil (2-3 quarts a week)in our 1998 S70 (85K miles). Volvo mechanics indicate rear main and front seals are bad but can not explain relationship to engine cleaning. Is it common for Volvo engine seals to become defective in such a short time and less than 100,000 miles? Could the engine steam cleaning be related to the defective seals? Are there any other explanations? This is our last Volvo if we don't get some answers.
