S70 headlight motor, Low beam coverage S70 1998

Looking in the Haynes book the other day to see how to change my low beam bulbs
I saw a mention of "headlight motor". Did they mean wiper motor or some other kind
of motor. If they meant some other kind of motor, what does it do?

I'm having a problem with my low beam coverage. It was too dim and did not cover enough. The high beams are fine, plenty bright good coverage.
I bought a pair of "Brighter bulbs" Sylvania Silver Stars. now I have brighter light but poor coverage forward and to the sides. The car is a T5 and looks like it has a slightly nose down stance but measuring from the ground to the center of the wheel well arcs is 25" (appx.)I'm hoping that some head light adjustment at the shop will cure this.

Any input or thoughts appreciated!

Freezing in coastal NC!
All you folks up north of here can tell me to quit whining now!

Regards
Woody

LOL If I could get on a plane to NC, I would be packing shorts and sandals!!

As to headlight motors, that is something Europeans have had for decades. They have the ability to adjust headlights from the driver's seat, with a push of a button. Of course, if they cause their headlights to be too bright, they can get a ticket on the spot, but usually the police have them turn down the beam and be on their way.

Americans are too dumb to have this feature, never having been taught how to drive in the first place. Many don't even know that their highbeam are on.

As to your problem with headlights, there are two. The first is the DOT lenses which diffuse the light so much, it doesn't shine down the road where you need it. The only recourse is to swap the lenses for Ecode (European style) lenses which have a sharp cutoff. They sell for around $100/pair and are fairly easy to install/replace. They are harder to aim correctly.

The other alternative is to adjust your headlights correctly. No shop I have ever been to does it the right way:

You need at least 25 feet of level pavement with a wall at one end.
Drive the car up to the wall until the bumper touches it.
With 2 pieces of 8X11 white paper taped to the wall in front of each headlight, draw the horizontal line the light pattern makes with a dark marker.
Back up the car perfectly straight for 25 feet.
Adjust your headlights up or down until the pattern of the headlights is about 1/2 inch below the previously drawn light pattern.

It is much easier to do with Ecodes because of the sharp cutoff and the 45 degree angle on the right hand side.
