ECU Memory 850 1993

I have a 1993 850 GLT and am curious as to how long the computer stores a fault code. Does it only store it when the car is on and reset itself when off, or does it record the code indefinately until it is reset manually? Thanks in advance from a novice Volvo owner.

If the problem that causedmthemcodemto set is intermittent and does not recur, the fault code will eventually clear after about 50 drive cycles. Certain conditions have to be met to complete a drive cycle and for the ecu to run to verify all functions are normal.
