    Re: noisy seat S40-V40 2000

This is apparently a very common failure amoung

Volvos. I have a 97 T-5 and it has been doing

this since I have had the car. My 1998 V70

is just starting to do this. Not sure what the

fix is other than possibly replacing the

tracks on which the seats sit. Sounds like

    they are wearing/warping to me.

    Re: noisy seat S40-V40 2000

Luis, check the archives, I gave the Volvo part number! There is a service bullitin for this exact problem/"Lateral seat movement, causing a clicking noise upon accelleration or deceleration"...according to Volvo! The fix is the removal of the seat by Volvo and the installation of a miniture shock absorber in the seat track area. There is no charge, it is supposed to be a 30 min. fix BUT as so few techs have done it,(mine was the 1st in Vermont) it took over an hour! Does it work?????? About 95% of the time, I get no clicking!!!! However every now and again it will click...go figure, I guess it needs to be tightened! The dealers should be aware of this problem, your not the 1st to bring it up and it is covered under warranty!!! Hope this helps, Bill

      Re: noisy seat S40-V40 2000

      Bill,

Do the bulletin and part numbers you gave Luis also apply to the '01 V40? I have the same problem with the power seat. It happened since delivery.

My V40 is coming up on 7500 and I also plan on asking this to my service tech, is there any fluid that, or oil used near the oil pan that can forms on the outside. It's a clear, clean fluid. I've changed the oil twice and after the first one I cleaned the underside of the oil pan (it was in the back corner away from the drain plug. After the second oil change I noticed it again.

      Thanks,

      Alberto

        Re: noisy seat S40-V40 2000

Alberto, the bulletin and part number only "say" 2000 model year S/V40! Every thing I have read and seen on the changes for the'01 year do not mention the seat or the hardware........my bet is its all the same and yes! it should apply. Your service manager should know....the important thing is that they have responded to the customers complaints and do indeed have a fix!!!! The problem that I have now is instead of the annoying click almost every time I hit the gas/or the brakes...its now just a few times a day!! Better......but still one click too many. I now have 24k and the car runs GREAT, but I guess the seat "shock absorber" needs tightning or adjusting.....! Good Luck and don't forget to vote! Bill

Re: noisy seat (Luis) S40-V40 2000

          Hi!

I have been following your coments and i can say that some european models

,like mine - special configuration, have the same kind of seat for both

          driver an passenger.

4 months ago my dealer fix this problem in the driver's seat and now i

have it again in the passenger side.

Where can i find volvo part #? I have some other problems to fix like a

          noisy catalyst at 3.3K RPM.

          Bye,

              Re: noisy seat (Luis)/Bill S40-V40 2001

              Bill/Luis,

The US cars can have front passenger power seat also. It's available through TDS as an option but isn't a part of any standard package otherwise. I know because we considered it in ours and didn't get it, now wish we had!

              Oh well.

Thanks for the info, I took my car in with your info and it also applies to the 2001. Or at least that's what my service tech is following as he's ordered the parts in reference to the 85-0010 bulletin you listed.

              Thanks,

              Alberto
