Touchy Brakes, Roof Rack Offer V70-XC70 2001

I picked up my 2001 V70 in mid July and have since put on on about 4600 Midwest miles. This is my first Volvo and I am quite pleased. A couple of things have me raising my eye brow and ticking me off. First (raising my eye brow) is the issue of touchy brakes. I don't know if this is just a Volvo characteristic, but I have difficult time feathering in the brake, it seems to have an on/off feel to it. This is certainly the biggest car I've driven on a regular basis (my other car is a Honda Prelude VTECH) so I don't know if that may have anything to do with it. Any feedback? The other issue (ticking me off) is regarding the offer Volvo made for those odering the new V70 before it arrived in showrooms. If you purchased the car before 3/31/00 and took delivery before 5/31 (or 6/30 I don't remember) you could choose some free accessory package one of which was a roof rack. I bit, put money down on 3/31, checked off "free roof rack" and was told I would have the car in 6 weeks. Well due to some "factory production delays" I didn't get my car until mid July, needless to say, without my roof rack. The dealer (Barrington Volvo, Illinois) said he's "working on it". Anybody actually cash in on this offer or should I call the state's attorney's office for breach of contract?

Re: Touchy Brakes, Roof Rack Offer V70-XC70 2001

I test drove two V70s yesterday- a 2.4T and a 2.4 NA and noticed the touchiness of the brakes. I thought maybe it was due to low mileage but yours is still happeining at 4600 miles- still may be due to low mileage- 4600 miles is not a lot I guess. I don't think it's a Volvo thing because my current one doesn't do it and I don't think the ones I rent from Hertz (usually around 20K on the clock) do it either.

No advice here, Rick, but some commiseration for your brake gripe; I share it. I've been wearing moccasins since August when I picked up my car at Orloff next to the Kennedy. Big boot weather coming, though, eh? Hoping to get used to the touchiness. Love the car, though (T5, 17"), even with touchy brakes and the infamous "subframe bushing" noise that I intend to have fixed. Anyway, best wishes. Oh, I had to wait too and ended getting a car off the lot.

I did benefit from the special offer for the roof rack. However, I bought my car June 16 and received my roof rack on July 11.

Thanks for your response, Francois. Where did you buy the car and did you submit the form that came with the offer? Thanks in advance.
