oil filter wrench V70-XC70 2000

Does anyone have a source for a wrench for the new cannister oil filter housing (99 and up). Ipd offers one -- for $28 bucks -- seems excessive for such a simple part. Sweedish engineering quoted me one for $20.

    The strap works great. I use one and recommend it unless you change oil in 20 cars a day; it will never wear out, but it might take 30 more seconds to use over the techo-marvel housing cap.

    When I asked the mechanic at my Volvo dealer what to use, he recommended a fabric strap wrench available at any auto parts store. It worked fine once I got it into proper position near the cannister base. The IPD unit looks like it might be easier to use. Surely there must be a $50 Volvo part for the job. ;-')

      Hi Folks;

      Yes there is. I picked mine up yesterday. Beautiful, bright blue enamelled with a 17mm nut for socket or wrench. Made in Switzerland, of course. Incidentally, right after I purchased my 2001 V70 T5, I bought a spare, plastic oil filter cannister. It comes with an oil filter and gasket and was only slightly more expensive than an oil filter alone. I am a little nervous about plastic parts that are torqued relatively highly and also exposed to high temperature. I shall have a spare when mine cracks. 35 years of owning Volvos, everyone with exactly the same oil filter and now they do this to me. Volvo claims that they changed the design for environmental reasons. In any case the paper filter is very easy to cut open for inspection after use.

    Cheap tools are poor investments.
