clunking noise when starting car in the cold S70 2000

Okay i'm sorry about not being specific on my last letter. Anyways, the noise is coming from the front of the car. I havne't looked under the hood to see exactly where it is coming from exactly. But the noise is less than a second and sounds like a hollow deep clanking noise. Really quick and soft. I don't know if that gives you guys enough info. The coldness here is about 50 some degrees and the noise only happens once when i start it up first thing in the morning. So far, I have heard it over 3 times.(I don't drive it every day) so... if you guys know anything about it please help me out.

thanks. I know i can bring it into the dealership but it will be hard for them to figure it out since it happens only in the morning and when the car is cold.

thanks.

tim

Re: clunking noise when starting car in the cold S70 2000

tim,

Here's a thought. I had a noise from my '98 S70 on start-up.

It turned out that the metal bracket that supports the glove box had the rubber isolation pad installed in the wrong place.

I moved it to the highest part of the bracket so that it made firm contact with the box. For good measure, I also installed self -

adhesive weatherstripping (1/2") along the rest of the bracket on both the horizontal and vertical surfaces contacting the box.

If your want to try this:

1. Remove the torx screws that hold the box.

2. Remove the box.

3. Remove and reinstall the isolation pad as above.

4. Install additional cushioning if desired.

5. Replace box and screws.

Good luck. Let me know if this solves your problem.
