Anybody done the projector lamp upgrade using the kits from IPD S70

I'm debating whether to buy e code lenses or bite the bullet and get the full Kit from IPD. Yes I know its a Lot of $ more than the lenses only, but I don't want to go to Lenses only to find out that it has not solved my problem (not enough coverage of the low beams.) I have already tried The Sylvania Ultra low beam bulbs did not seem to go much further than the ones I took out [Sylvania silvers]

I'd appreciate any input!

Regards

Woody

Why do I keep all of this stuff? S70

I just went through my below freezing garage and found a set of Ecodes. And both turn signals from my 1998.

The Ecode lenses are in pretty good shape, except for the BB sized hole in the passenger side. I put a square of clear packing tape over it and that kept the dust and water out for over 6 months.

If you want them, send me your snail mail address. I expect to be compensated for shipping, of course :)

      Hi Klaus,

Have you observed any difference in performance or quality between different e-code lens suppliers? I need to replace a lens and turn signal.

      Thanks,

      Will

Why do I keep all of this stuff? S70 1998

Back in the days with round headlights, I could have written volumes. These days, each car has a different lense. Having lived in Europe for a few years, I bacme accustomed to having good lights at night. Even in France when they required yellow headlights, objects down the road and shoulder would be picked up at a safe distance at 60mph.

I only used Ecodes on my 98 V70 and what a good thing that was. They came in Scantec boxes from FCP, lense with seal and clips.

The only problem I had with the lenses was that both of them had 45 degree angle cutoffs on the right side. Meaning that the beam cutoff was flat from the left to right, but the right edge went up 45 degrees. This is what you want from the right lense but not from the left. Both of those cutoffs merge down the road about 1/4 mile, and will light up the cabin on a semi. Not very nice to truckers when you are in the left lane and gaining (which I almost always am).

Solution was to put a piece of black electrical tape over the outside of the left lense to eliminate the angle. Traffic signs were still lit by the right beam and the trucker's cabin no longer glowed like daylight.

I only use stock headlight bulbs BTW. It was so nice to drive at night with low beams and be able to see. High beams were like daytime.

After I got a nice rock through the passenger side Ecode lense, I purchased a set of projector beams - made in China of course.

It did have a flat cut off like the Ecodes, but not as bright down the road. I also like to have low beams that can be used at 45-55mph, safely.
The biggest problem with the assembly was the mounting points. The metal used for the 10mm screws was not grooved enough and the plastic was too thin. Before the assembly could be snugged to the frame, the round mounting metal was turning in the plastic. After total disassembly of the new lamps, there was no way that the cheap parts could be made to handle more than 2 lbs of torque.
In otherwords, junk! Any bump on the road and the headlights would bounce up and down.

Just get some Ecode lenses and aim them yourself.

Thank you for the first hand experience KlausC. I had wondered about this question myself.

Remember there is another option - you can buy regular replacement headlamp assemblies (ie: not the projectors). If you call someone who sells both replacement assemblies and e-code lenses, you might be able to get them together (ie: new assemblies/reflectors and e-code lenses rather than the DOT lenses).

I would be surprised if your reflectors are still working as they should with the age of your car.
