oil recommendation please S70

We have a 2000 S70 turbo and a very expensive turbo replacement that was just completed. We haven't owned the car long enough to be the sole culprit to the unfortunate event but I have not used synthetics at oil changes but am ready to now. I have a case of Mahle oil filters (OE) and would like a recommendation for which brand of synthetic oil to use. I have read on the brickboard that Mobil one filters aren't a good idea and I figure some good advice from those who know would be a wise move. P.S. A rebulit turbo with Volvo OE parts was right at nine hundred bucks! (we really didn't need that)

    Taking care of a turbo:

    1. always allow the engine to run another 60 seconds before shutting down after a long or hot trip. this helps cool the turbo

    2. Use full synthetic (I use Mobil1) and check the level frequently and of course do not over fill

    3. Use an oil filter with a value that helps start the oil circulation as soon as the engine is started by keeping oil up at the top and not allowing it to all drain to the bottom of the filter- Mann OEM filters are best for your car.

Amazing that you indeed needed a new turbo, they seldom fail.

Brand is a personal thing, but using 100% synthetic is good for your engine. I use Mobile 1, but that is because it is readilly available. Either 5W30 or 10W30 works best.

I use Mann filters, by the case from FCPGroton so that it is under $4 each, plus a crush washer ordered at the same time. The oil filters contain a back flow preventer valve, keeping oil in the filter. Not needed in the 5cyl engine because of the location of the filter, but at least the filter is of good quality, as are yours.

If you keep the rpms over 2,000 for most of your driving, the oil will stay cleaner longer and you can extend oil changes to 7500-10000 miles. Short trips will allow the condensating water to remain mixed with the oil and you wind up with sulphuric acid, so change the oil sooner.
