Broken center door hinge 850

The center door hinge, on my front doors crackle when I open the doors. I guess I have the worst case scenario where the bracket that the 40mm torx screw fastens to, need to be re-welded to the A post.
Anybody fixed that. Any other “home solution” besides welding? Is welding safe for all electric/electronics parts?

Thank you for all your help.

Janusz

Fix for broken center door hinge 850

It takes quite a while, over 5 minutes on my PC, to completely down load the web page with pictures. It comes from an archive site, so enter this in a new browser and get a cup of coffee:

    A really good fix,

Bobd324 is quite correct, welding is not the only solution. I remembered this fix from the old OZBRICK web site, but it is no longer there for general use.

I hope you can visualize rather than rely on a picture. This you can do at home, the door weighs about 50 lbs, and can be lifted by the window frame and placed on the floor.

Here is a link to the non-welding fix:

      http://webspace.webring.com/people/mo/ozbrick/door-stay_fix.html

I had not loaded up this page in quite a while. I can see the text, but I am seeing a little red "X" where each of the images should be. Hopefully, that is just my computer. Hope you can see them.

I did this procedure about 2 years ago, using only one bolt instead of the recommended two. The door has been rock solid ever since. Sure beats the $$$ welding repair.

Welding isn't as bad as it sounds. The body of the car needs to be grounded and the battery unplugged. Whoever does it, needs to be aware of the wires in the area.

Don't forget to keep the hinges greased!

dont have it welded! I had an 850 nad a 1998 V70 door strap welded and both broke in less than a year!
I followed a repair that called for removing the door( very easy, 1 torx lock screw on each hinge and one on the wireing to the door) undo the one on the wire feed and twist it and it will unplug then undo the torx on the hinges and then you can just lift the door off. You need to remove the trim at the foot kickplate area on the interior area.
You need to drill out the existing spotwelds one at a time and then fish a 6mm x 15 mm bolt through with large flat washers to hold everything together.
There had been a very good write up at
      http://webspace.webring.com/people/mo/ozbrick/door-stay_fix.html#steve
unfortunatly the pictures are not there anymore, i have done this on 3 850's and all are still working.
If you contact this link you may be able to get the picture link, it really is an easy inexpensive fix.
I will try to post a picture of my completed repair.

Remove trim in footwell area - instruction. 850 1995

Removing the trim in the footwell as per your method might have been worth it for me. I spent at least 90 minutes trying to get the Lower nut on the screw and then fiddling with and bending a wrench so that I could tighten it. If removing the trim inside gives better access than working through the a pillar hole next to the electrical connection it could be a time saver. The the upper nut only took 10 minutes though, it's closer to the hole.
