Another post-evap problem: cruise control! 850 96

Well, after getting my 850 back from the dealer again for the post-evap replacement work done (reconnect turbo indicator hose and look at intermittent a/c fault codes), I was happily driving on the freeway and decided to engage the cruise control. I heard this horrible pop (couldn't tell if it was mechanical or electrical, but it was loud) and the cruise control would not engage. Arrgh!! This is very frustrating. I am curious if there is any simple self-diagnostics I can do before I take it back to the dealer. Could this be something as simple as a blown fuse? I looked at the fuse panel bank under the hood but did not see any (according to the diagram) related to the cruise control. Ideas anyone?

Robo,

Check your accelator pedal down low beside the brake pedal.

There is a plastic piece that connects with the accelator (inside the passenger compart on the floor near the fire wall) that moves the pedal when the cruise control is engaged.

Mine was not put on properly after the evaporator was replaced and broken the first time I engaged by cruise.

New part was cheap from dealer. I installed it myself.

Hope this helps.

Purm

You hit the nail on the head! I went out and looked and there was the broken plastic piece sitting on the floor of the car. Which of course explains the loud crack I heard this morning. Now, here's the $64 question: does anyone know the part number of the piece I need? That would be really helpful. Thanks!

Take the part with you to the dealer and have the parts guy match it up to their cruise control schematic in the parts manual.

There a vacuum hose and an actuator connected to the top of the accelerator pedal. Maybe the pop is the hose or the actuator that is loose under the dash. To see it, you have to remove the dash bottom panel on the driver side. It is attached to the top of the gas pedal.
