How do you install the IPD intermittent wiper module? V70-XC70 2000

      A precise intermittent wiper control would be nice to have. How easy is it to set (and adjust) the wiper cycle to predictable intervals? The stock controls I've used in other cars are either continuously variable or a series of steps. Setting the IPD unit sounds like trial-and-error in the catalog description.

        Describing how the system works is kind of tough, but I'll give it a try. (

        Once you have tried it, you will see that it is pretty much intuitive).

        Essentially, you lift the wiper lever into the interval position for a

        single swipe to remove the existing accumulation and then return the lever

        to the off position. When you lift the lever to remove this next

        accumulation, leave the lever in the interval mode and the interval is set

        to the "optimum" time (the time between the two "human controlled" wipes

        above.

        Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

          To change the interval if you don't like it, do you have to return to the off position and go through the process again? That's a lot of steps.

          Also, what happens if you leave the lever in the interval position the first time? Does it default to some delay time?

            If you place the lever in the interval position and leave it, you will get the favctory interval that is around 5-7 seconds. It mauy sound like a few steps to re-set the interval, but if you think abouyt it, there is no possible quicker way. If the smart relay memorized your last setting, what are the chances that the next time you need it you are going to want that delay interval? It is intuitive. After using it, you'll see that it is the maost natural and logical design.

            I have this wiper relay. As you mentionned, it is many steps. However, Volvo does not have a knob to adjust the delay, this relay allows you to vary the interval without adding another switch or modifying your car. It is a good solution considering all these constraints.

            About the first time, I think it remember last time it was used and used that time delay.

      Hi Scott-

      Several months ago you said (I think it was you, it could have been someone else from IPD) on the aftermarket board that the price on the intermittent wiper relay would come down soon.

      This was in response to a post I made asking if the VW intermittant relay, available for about $25 or so, really was the same part, and if anybody else tried it. I also asked if anybody else felt screwed by the price difference.

      The relay is still $68 on your web page.

      Is it actually the same part as the $25 VW relay?

        I bought the relay from Neuspeed. It was around $27 delivered.

        Someone posted a good picture and instructions on a URL. I have it at my office if anyone needs it. Just email me.

        BTW, this relay is apparently the same product for audi, vw and a few others I think. It's made in germany.
