Water Spots Removal 850 1995

Is there any way to remove water spots from the glass and from the mirrors?

I would assume the glass surfaces can be polished with something (what?), but the outsude mirrors are plastic and can probably be damaged. These water spots are very hard to remove, I had them on my previous cars, but I never had such a great pool of wisdom as in this group.

This is unrelated to my question:

Thanks to this group's help I already replaced all 4 brake rotors + all pads and the timing belt - all at the cost of the parts (and hard work). I actually wanted to change the timing belt at the dealer, but they were "overbooked" and could make an appointed only in a couple of weeks.

Re: Water Spots Removal 850 1995

HI from New Zealand

I recently purchased an 850 T5 import from Singapore and it has water spots all over it. It is hard to can see them on the paint but on the windscreen they are a hazard at night.

I tried several commercial glass cleaners with little effect and had a local glass company try their brew with limited effect.

I then asked my brother-in-law who is in the glass business and he sugested a product we have in NZ called Brasso. This is used for polishing brass. I was a little aprehensive at first and tried it out on a small section of glass on a side window. It took a bit of rubbing but it worked. It is obviously a mild abrasive. I dont no if you have the same product in your country so be careful, it is a last resort method.

He said water spots are a common problem especially when left on new glass and since the car was first driven in Singapore the possibility of pollution is high.

Good luck

Yuri,

I use Sprayway aerosol glass cleaner. They only sell it through dealers, so you cant buy it in your local stores. It's alcohol based, and is very high quality. It runs around $3-$4 a can, but it lasts a while. A lot better online detailing shops sell it, but the prices vary widely, shop around.

Sprayaway is very good, but I think its a bit mild for water spots that have been left to mature. I do like Spraway for the inside of the glass though. I also like "Einman Fabrik" on the inside of the glass. For the outside I like the 3M brand foaming glsss cleaner(this is only when it is real messed up).

The best thing I found to clean glass with any of these products is a "micro-fibre" cloth....the one for glass(they have others).

All these things can be found at better detailing web sites....like "classic car care" or autosupermart.com

I can see these things used on the glass, but what about the mirrors. I believe they are plastic (?), not glass, and I see water spots on them all the time, esp. at hight when they are hit by the lights of the following cars.

NO.....they are not plastic, but they can be damaged if you use a scraper or something like that on them.

I use the same products on my mirrors that I use on my windows, and everyhing is spotless.
