Brake Booster Vacuum Hose 850 1995

I need to replace the vacuum hose from the intake manifold to the brake booster. The dealer wants $42/foot for it, while my local parts store wants $6.99 for 3 feet. I'm somewhat impressed at the discrepancy!

Do you know if there's anything special about the brake booster vacuum hose that would make me want to buy the official Volvo hose? Or is the generic 3/8 (or 5/16 - need to measure first) vacuum hose sufficient?

Thanks in advance!

I have no particular experience with this, but I would personally be satisfied with any automotive hose of the correct size. Probably heater hose would be easiest to come by and I would feel alright with that. I'd give that a go - there's no reason why this needs to cost $42/ft!!

Hello,

Use 3/8 hose from Autozone. Don't try to replace the whole thing unless you are ready to buy more parts (Oops, it busted off). Splice it near the battery tray and call it a day. The hose deteriorates near the hot manifold but is okay away from the heat.

I did this just yesterday, so I know what you mean.

Thanks, I'll probably do that. I have pretty good access right now, as I have the intake manifold off (which was why I had to mess with the brake booster vacuum hose to begin with.)

Actually, the real reason is that I'm replacing the knock sensors. Kept getting intermittent loss of signal on one. Got in there and found it corroded at the connector. Sometimes it's good to find a problem - then you can have some expectation of fixing it!
