Heated seats on Volvo 850 GLT 1996 850 1996

Hello,

I have a Volvo 850 GLT 1996 and the heated seats will not work. I want to know if someone have the same problem and if you have a solution for repair this.

Delphis-

Most often the wire is broken at the thermostat. If you look under the seat from the rear you will see a pair of wires running up into the foam cushion at about the center of the seating area. The thermostat is retained by a plastic 'mushroom' on top of the foam. You can work the thermostat with the mushroom down through the hole and check the wires and terminals. You can short across the wires to see if the thermostat is the problem. Sometimes the heating element has an open in the circuit and that requires the upholstry removed for replacement of the heating grid. It is laminated in a foam sheet that adheres to the cushion. The connectors for the elements are located at the front edge of the cushion and you can isolate the bad element by separating the connectors and testing with an ohm meter. Element replacement is best left to someone with interior/upholstry experience as the cushion and backrest EACH have around 30 hog rings attatching them to the foam cushions.
