Stereo questions, Tweeters in rear 850 95

I see that in my wagon I have the option to put in tweeters in the rear pillars along side the rear hatch....Anyone done this yet? stock radio...any suggestions for speaker type? Why do the rear speakers sound like I have no high end? are there crossovers in the system? I feel that if I put two or three ways in the rear doors I will not get any highs from them....Enlighten me, please..

Re: Stereo questions, Tweeters in rear 850 95

It was an option and most wagons I see have them. They don't exactly sound like much however so although the OEM speakers will install easily (just clip in), you'ld get more bang for your buck if you could find a better aftermarket rear speaker alternative. The space in that "D" pillar is very limited and won't accomodate anything larger than a small midrange/tweeter but maybe a custom stereo install place has better rear speaker ideas?

Re: Stereo questions, Tweeters in rear 850 95

My '94 wagon came with the tweeters installed in the rear pilars. They definitely improve things. Briefly, putting tweeters low in the rear doors will accomplish little if anything as highs are very directional. In that regard, Volvo put them up high in the rear (facing forward) where they belond. So even if the wagon is 3/4's loaded, you'll still hear the highs. They are fairly easy to install. However, don't expect miracles either as the factory system simply doesn't have enough power to drive all of the speakers cleanly. The other limitation is the factory installed radio antenna in the rear side glass, which simply can't pull in and hold stations very well. Good luck.
