Volvo #2 - new to the FWD models and need some help! S70 2000

Hi everyone!

After my sister wrecked my '92 240GL (227,000 miles), I was Volvo-less for the last 6 months. Well, my Jeep started acting funny and I was ready for a new car so I began browsing to see what was out there, Euro-wise, that would make a great commuter car. I looked at VWs, BMWs, Audis, etc. and ultimately was lead back to Volvos for reliability reasons. I don't like the S60, I think it looks like a mutated 1st generation S80, which is too big. I ended finding a 2000 S70 GLT SE with 50,500 miles! 1-owner, no wrecks! I jumped on it. Mechanically it seems great. Even though it's low-mileage, it still has 10 years worth of dings, chips, etc.

So after 2 weeks of ownership, I have discovered several quirks I want to address:
1) The power door locks work when they want. It appears to be the actuators?
2) The door panels are delaminating, is there a 'quick fix' for this?
3) The Antenna works when it wants. I know I can replace it, but is there a more modern fix? Like a 'shorty' VW style antenna?

Thanks!
-Chad

Congrats on your find. I have the exact same car and its still running great at 147,000 miles. I would also check to see if your ETM electronic throttle module has been replaced. It was a 10yr/200k miles warranty item. If you don't have records, an easy way to tell is by looking at it for a yellow sticker on it. Those are the updated modules.

Those window switches go after a while, I had to replace mine. I bought an aftermarket one for 100.00 shipped.

Enjoy your new car. That's some really low mileage. Post any problems you have here or on matts volvo site. We've just about seen them all.

    3) Get a new antenna mast for $17.

    2) There is no fix for the delamination of the vinyl inserts. You will have to take the panels off, cut out the glued in section, take the sections (all 4) to an upholstry shop and let them glue in thicker vinyl panels. Then you just glue the section back in place and it will never happen again.

    1) The power locks are driven from the driver's door. If the key works consistantly, then try replacing the battery in the remote. Make sure the door is closed firmly, along with the hood and trunk.

Change your oil to synthetic 5w or 10w30. Flush the tranny with the proper fluid, all of that sitting around is not good. Same for the power steering fluid.

These engines like to rev, so make sure it does!
