Intermittent engine miss? 850 1996

Hey All, Recently had to replace the fuel pump on the old 850, and all was well until the car was back on the road, now the car has a, for the lack of a better term, an intermittent miss, but only when it's ran for about 15- 20 minutes, and then only at stop signs/lights, etc..( Only since fuel pump replacement) She runs like a top once the "miss" clears up ( acts as if its momentarily fuel starved) but as soon as the next red light rolls around, she spits and sputs and takes off and runs like a top til the next stop. No codes are showing up, all fluids look like they should, plugs are dry, I'm hoping that it's either bad fuel or perhaps plug wires,(she's due) but if theres something else I need to be on the look out for, I'd appreciate the heads up. Thanks everyone! - DM.

When was the fuel filter replaced? What kind of pump are you using? You need to check the fuel pressure, it should be around 38-40psi at idle.

Go ahead and change the wires, rotor, and cap. That is normal maint.

Thanks Klaus, I'll do the wires etc. tomorrow. As for the filter, I think it's about 18 mos old, but I cant be sure. I thought about changing that as well, but I had hopes the mechanic did that when he changed the pump.( he didnt) I do not know what brand of pump the mech. used, he didnt say, and at that point, I was just glad to hear it run again, therefore I didnt ask, ( neglect on my part, I know) She does smell a bit "rich", but she has for quite a while now, although it seems to be getting more pronounced of late. On Idle, it purrs like a kitten and on road she's just as good as new, it's just at stop signs and red lights when the sputs and spits hit. I'm more than a bit concerned that one upcoming red light or stop sign will be the one when she quits, and we all know where that can lead. Wish me luck on the wires/cap/etc.. and I'll keep the updates coming. Thanks Again, Klaus!

If the idle gets real low while stopping, shift to N and see if that helps. The idle control might also be dirty.

dirty throttle body will cuase stalling decel to idle

Thanks Klaus and Bentwrench, I changed the fuel filter yesterday and she ran like a top for the 30 minute test run , until I turned the a/c on, and then the spits and sputs came back, turned the a/c off and back to purring like a kitten again. I will try the idle control and throttle body cleanout later this week, as well as the mass air sensor. Thanks for the input, and any other suggestions or tips are appreciated! -Thanks Again! -DM

Well Guys, it wasnt the fuel filter, after reading a recent post about the MAF, that's my next option. We'll see. Thanks for the advice and assistance, I appreciate it! - DM
