Just got mine/audio system question V70-XC70 2001

Picked up my new XC yesterday. So far it is a much nicer driver's car than my MB E320 4matic. Seem quicker and lighter on its feet. The geartronic is great.

Does anyone out there have the Dolby Pro Logic system? When I adjuct the fader so that only the rear speakers are playing and leave the effect knob in the center position, I get almost no sound out of the rear when the radio is on. When a CD is playing I get more sound, but almost no vocals. Is this the way it's supposed to be?

The sound system is way better than the E320.

Re: Just got mine/audio system question S80 2000

This is normal. I have the same system in my S80. The rear channels are used for "echo" or concert hall effect. Turn up the effect knob and you will notice more sound from the rear. The goal of the DPL system is to recreate a concert hall sound. The system is awesome! You can also play with the center and fader to really create an echoing type sound.

    Yup.

    Exactly what should happen.

Still, exactly what should be happening.

    > Is this the way it's supposed to be?

Yes. When you're in Dolby (CDs only, you only get the 2/3 channel option when you're listening to the radio) the vocals should emit from in front of you and preferably from the centre channel. When you move the sound all the way to the rear of the vehicle there is no centre channel and thus no vocals. I call this Karaoke mode. I'm pretty sure Volvo doesn't but it's a neat feature nonetheless.

    So true!

Re: Just got mine/audio system question V70-XC70 2001

To add to the list of questions, first, does anyone know how to adjust the number of stations that the radio scans using the steering wheel controls from the pre-set 20 to a smaller number. Where we live there are not even 10 stations. Second, there appear to be three setting options: two channel, dolby pro-logic and 3 channel. Cleary the latter two are preferred, however, I'm not sure what the difference is between the latter two, and which is preferred.

    Thanks.

You can reduce the # of presets. Simply select the preset # you want to limit your radio to...say 10 for argument sake. Then push and hold the preset setting button ("1-20"). Hold the button down for a few seconds and you are all set. To add more presets again, simply set the preset like normal.

Let us know how you make out.

It will work....i have done it.

I'm pretty sure that that isn't an option.

You'll only be using Dolby when you're listening to a CD. You may try to select it with FM radio on but it simply won't change from 2/3 channel. Obviously Dolby is preferred. Throw an orchestral CD into the changer and then toggle in between Dolby and 3 channel. You'll realize very quickly how rich the Dolby is above the 3 channel.
