Need to first get the fuel door open any tricks. Got the door open moved black plunger back

Second, diagnose problem. If I take the actuator out and check the volts across the wires when button is pushed will that diagnose either the switch or actuator?

    I had this problem on my '95 850T.

    On the 850, there is a small wire handle to pull for just this failure. I think I had to open the cover for the tail lights in the trunk, and the handle was just sitting there. Pull on the handle, and the locking rod retracts, allowing the fuel door to open.

    On my car, the locking solenoid had failed. I replaced the solenoid, and all has worked for another 100k miles.

    You are on the right track. I would guess the switch failed, that means that I am right 50% of the time.

      You can permanently fix it by taking a hacksaw or whatever and cutting off the tab on the inside of the fuel door. No more electrical problems. (I have the same problem) I took the ghetto approach and just duct taped the hole closed on the tab. It's amazing how frustrated and intense you become when the gas gauge keeps going down and you can't get the fuel door open.

        Our S80 has some sort of fall-back means to open the door from inside the trunk. Possibly your's has the same sort of thing - check the owners manual.
