Leaky Oil Cooler Seals V70-XC70 2001

Noticed some oil leaks from around the cooler when I was changing out the coolant hoses. Anybody attempt to change the oil seals before? Any advice on how involved a job this is?

Thanks!

Replacing the oil cooler O rings is fairly easy, get new O rings and clips at the dealer - they are cheap and you do not want to pay shipping.

Buy a couple of small solid hose clamps at an autoparts store for $5 for added security. Just make the clamps snug, too tight and you will break the radiator fitting.

With the hoses off, make sure that the leak is not the radiator tube. Use a flashlight to look for cracks.

I have done this on my 1998 v70. not sure how different it is compared to the setup in your P2. One word of advice - on the P1s the little aluminum clip that holds the connection together is NOT enough to contain the pressure. Zip ties didn't do it for me either. I used hose clamps around the whole setup to lock everything together. It was a real mess and real dangerous (for my engine) when that hose connection came apart because it blew the entire contents of the crankcase out in about 15 seconds, and a lot of it went straight into the alternator and ruined it. Make sure this connection is tight and not leaking even when the engine is revving before driving away.

Hello, Is it true that only turbo equipt engines have oil coolers? If so, can an oil cooler from a turbo equipt engine be installed on a non-turbo car? Kira
