where is the ECU? S40-V40 2000

I know this sounds dumb but I'm not sure where the ECU is located. Also if anyone knows how hard is it to remove the chip that would be useful info too.

Anyway thanks in advance.

Larry L.

Re: where is the ECU? S40-V40 2000

another "chip" thread. As Abe said, I don't think any Volvo ECU has removeable e-proms (chips) and the aftermarket performance upgrade should really be a replacement, re-programmed ECU BUT.....who's now selling it? The last I saw, IPD halted the idea due to possible re-programming problems unless they've now solved the problem?.

Just curious.

Re: where is the ECU? S40-V40 2000

PES said that their chip was ready. and that they could put it on a socket. when I talked to them they said the prom was a standard 36pin package. I'll have to look at the ECU for my self and see what’s up.

Question: If I disconnect the ECU will that reset anything?

The ECM is on the "hump" at firewall. If you remove the RH center console cover ( in passenger's footwell) you will see it. It may have a metal plate over with a shear head bolt that you will have to remove by drilling in order to get at ECM.

I'm under the impression Siemens ECM's do not have removable chips.

Correct. It's built completely from surface-mount parts and needs (very) specialized tools to remove/install.

Bye, Arno.
