ac problem 1989

Hi,

The ac runs fine on highway. In town, at low rpm, there is a problem that I can't figure out. Sometimes, the steering gets really hard, like the pump isn't working and I get a quick spike on the temp gauge. It seems like a false reading, because it comes right back down if I turn off the ac. Any ideas?

Thanks.

You need to check the serpentine belt for slippage, it sounds like the PS pump is not turning.

The radiator fan needs to be checked, the AC is supposed to turn the fan on. Of course, if the S-belt is slipping for the AC...
