PO506 Idle Control System RPM low S70

2000 S70 non turbo -- Read ECL code and got PO506 -- I would appreciate any suggestions about the most likely cause and possible fix.

This is wife's car and ECL came on suddenly with no prior problems.

Thanks for any help.

Jim

Just a little information for you. Unless your ECM's going bad (very unlikely just this code is set off..) this code is nothing.

This code gets set when the idle deviates too much from what the car thinks it should. It will either be high or low. High is usually caused by a large power consumer being rapidly shut off, while low is usually caused by the idle speed by it being turned on. What this means is lets say the car is at idle and she sharply turns the wheels, it could be set. Or if she were steering then decided to straighten out rapidly.

Unless it comes back with others, its no concern...

P0506 Idle Control System RPM Lower Than Expected

That is one of the error messages I normally clear and wait for it to return. Have your wife check the rpm when she comes to a stop, it should always be between 900-1000.

It could be a dirty idle control valve or dirty throttle body. Perhaps your ETM has hickupped?

FYI -- A good throttle body and intake cleaning seems to have fixed the problem.

Something we all forget to do and need. Thanks for the reminder, I have a gasket sitting on my shelf waiting for me to use it :>)
