Motor Mount Update, Lube Tensioner? 850 1993

Installed new right side motor mount, nearest the crank pulley (p/n 9135178-3) that I only noticed was busted when I replaced the timimg belt on Sunday. The "rough" idle I had been mysteriously experiencing is now gone!

How does one properly "lubricate the accessory drive belt tensioner"?

On the eve of Thanksgiving I would like to thank all the Techs and contributors to the BrickBoard who truly make this a valuable resource.

Re: Motor Mount Update, Lube Tensioner? 850 1993

    Russ,

you helped me on an earlier post. Thaks,

I have not replaced a timing belt on Volvo before, I do brakes, alt's, and stearing racks before. Having done these things, should I be able to get this done without special tools? I hear its tough to compress the tensioner.

My 850 when cold makes that often talked about whine!! I assume that this is the auxillary drive belt tensioner(pulley) Have you learned what to lube this with, and how to do it?

Also, how could you see that the mount was broken?

    Thanks Peter D

      Peter,

I made a tool that looks just like IPD's tool. It's about 24" long with a 19m/m square block on the end. I removed the drive belt tensioner, cleaned it and sprayed it with white lithium grease. I noticed the motor mount was broken when relacing the timing belt. I had noticed for some time before that the idle had become rough. A little gentle prying near the crank pulley shows if the mount's OK. As far as changing the belt yourself, I highly recommend the Haynes manual. The best $16.00 you'll spend on the car. I also have the Chilton's manual. They supplement each other.
