Saw this on cnn.com: State Farm is using now using there
own real world crash data to set auto insurance rates. In
the past, you got 30% for having air bags. Now they will
discount 10 to 40% based on real world data (since most cars
now have air bags). Styate Farm has posted a list of 36 vehicles
that do best in crashes (the A list). See:
http://www.statefarm.com/media/release/discount.htm
The Volvo S40, S/V70 and S80 series are on the list of top 36.
Oddly, in the C series the convertable gets an A rating and the
hardtop gets a B rating. The V40 also gets a B but the S40 gets
an A rating.
Most of the vehicles on the list are large pickups and full
size vans or larger cars. For example, the only Fords listed with
an A rating are Econoline F150, 250 and 350 vans and F150,250
pickups.
The Volvos and Saabs seem to be the smallest vehicles on the list.
There is also a longer list covering all vehicles.
