Tranmission Problem V70-XC70 2002

Last night while driving home from Atlanta in rush hour traffic (stop and go) My transmission locked in third gear (I think). Would not up shift or down shift.I think it was in third because rpm never got over 3600 at 70mph.. Last year I drained and replaced all transmission fluid and had computer on car updated with latest date and that helped a transmission problem of hard downshifts. ( a problem that a lot of the owners report) Error message came on saying"service transmission".. I continued on about 15 miles where I was able to stop and get gas and shut down the car. After restarting transmission was a good as new again?????????
I am going to clear codes and see what it does this next week.
Any ideas. I was told last year at a volvo dealership that I had abs module problem. Could this be my problem now??

If the ABS light comes on, remember that the speed data goes through the ABS module and if the ABS module fails, the speed will be unknown to the TCU and ECU resulting in limp mode.

    Get the codes read.

ABS light never came on... Service transmission came on.

The only reason I thought of the abvs module is that last year when updating my transmission softwear I was told there was a problem with the abs modeul.

your car went into limp mode. . Maybe a good flush will fix you (as you might have a sticking solenoid) Otherwise try to get a dealer read your transmission codes.

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?
