Easiest method to remove air hose from turbo V70-XC70 1998

I just pulled the vacuum line off the PTC on the inlet hose and it is really dirty. What I need to do is pull the air hose off the turbo so I can take the PTC out and clean it completely. It is not plugged yet.

?Is there an easy way to remove/install the air hose on the turbo? I cannot get 2 hands down there to hold the clamp while tightening it back up.

Or, should I try to remove the PTC with the line in place. Probably not a good idea.

    I'd try to pop it out first, worst thing that happens is you have to take out the pipe to put it back in, right?

    IIRC a rubber seal holds it in (well enough, not a great seal though...) so it should be able to pop back in. You've got your skid plate and whatever else under there so if it falls, you're unlikely to find it easily.. (unless you get to take them off too, and make this job 3-4 times harder than it should be...


    Easiest method is to have someone else do it ;-)

    Easiest method to remove air hose from turbo V70-XC70 1998

    I don't really know an 'easy' way, but I can tell you what I do.

    I have the hose clamp positioned so that the screw/hex fitting points straight up along the firewall. I bring my trouble light and a long flathead driver and climb up into the engine compartment, first standing on the battery and then putting my knee on top of the head. So I'm basically sitting on top of the engine when I do this.

    I think it /may/ be easier to undo the clamp from underneath in the FWD models, but there's not much room in the AWD like mine (and yours) and this is what has worked for me. Open to suggestions.

    When I cleaned my PTC I ended up pulling the whole plastic fitting right out of the plastic intake pipe you're removing from the turbo. When I put it back together I sealed it up with sensor safe silicone and haven't had any problems. It's actually not a very good fit anyway so the silicone was probably an improvement. Also it's not so sticky that I'll never get it off again (like if I used ABS cement or epoxy or something like that).

    Now with all that said, you can easily clean the PTC from above without removing either the PTC from the intake hose or the intake hose from the turbo. If you remove all the hoses from the PTC you can just insert you cleaner of choice (do they make really stiff pipe cleaners?) and spray throttle body cleaner down there and get it really clean while it's on the car. This is what I will do next time I decided it's necessary.

      No easy method to remove air hose from turbo V70-XC70 1998

      My clamp had the screw facing the firewall which was a reasonable thing for a 7mm ratchet.

      I had "cleaned" the PTC nipple before with TB cleaner and a toothpick. This time, with the air hose off, I could see the dirt and used a screwdriver to make the hole square again.

      I used WD40 to clean it, followed by TB cleaner to get the WD40 off. Works great.

      For reassembly, I snugged up the Turbo end of the air pipe first. Then put all of the vacuum lines back on. Then clamped the pipe to the air box. Followed by tightening the turbo end clamp.

      It works. The backs of my hands look like a war zone. I guess it is time to buy another bottle of hydrogen peroxide :>)
