Code Troubles/What Codes Mean -- PLEASE HELP!! 850 1994

Hello, I am having a lot of troubles reading codes from my car (1994 854T). I was having some difficulties with my transmission (stuttering between gears on highway) so I wanted to see if there were in any codes in the system. So I plugged the jumper into the A1 hole. As soon as I plug the jumper into the hole, the LED glows dimly. I thought this was normal so I just pressed the button for a second and the LED becomes bright then just goes back to the dim glow, and I get no codes at all… Does anyone know what’s happening; am I trying to get the codes wrong or something? Also I have the same problem if I plug the jumper in the A3 hole, I follow the same process as above and I get the same results for A3, no codes. Any suggestions?

Because of the previous problem I decided to get codes from the rest of the jumper holes. Can anyone shed some light on what these codes mean for the ones I get codes for?

UPDATE: After waiting 3 hours after having the car off, I went to the garage and tried to get the codes again and I was able to get them from the car, the bottom listing is what I got.

---Right after the car was turned off ----

A1 – Dim light, look above

A2 – 1-1-1

B3 – Didn’t try

B5 – 1-2-7 -> What does this code mean?

---After 3 hours of sitting in the garage ----

I found what some of the codes meant, but I'm not quite sure what they specifically mean... Could someone expand???

4-4-4 - Acceleration Sensor Signal

2-1-3 - Throttle switch signal (wide-open)

2-1-4 - Ignition rpm signal erratic

1-2-2 - Air Temperature sensor signal

4-1-7 - I couldn't find any information for this one

1-2-7 - I couldn't find any information for this one

Thanks agin for the help.

Re: Code Troubles/What Codes Mean -- PLEASE HELP!! 850 1994

Scott, I have an 850 turbo with 164k miles on it. When I bought the car the CE light was on and I checked the codes. I found codes that were completely ambigous. I reset the codes and drove the car until the check engine lamp came on again. This time the codes all were reasonable. I went from some 7+ codes to one "real" error. It does indeed sound as if there is a problem, but it would not hurt to clean things up a bit and then recheck. Aafter all, that is what a mechanic would do but charge you $65.00 an hour while doing so. (not that there is anyhting wrong with a mechanic doing his/her job, but doing this yourself can save some serious green in the long term) Best of luck to you, and please post the results.

Thanks

Prospero
