I got into the OFF mode trying codes that the seller gave me. I seem to remember something from when I bought my other 98 about 11 yrs. ago that involved 3 days before you could enter the code again. Do you remove the power for three days? Do you leave the power applied for 3 days but not turn the unit on? Or is it longer than 3 days or something else I forgot? It was 5 days w/ unit installed and still had OFF mode, but I was turning on every day to check.

    2 hours, not days. You have 3 chances to enter the correct code when the radio spells CODE, after that the radio spells OFF. To regain CODE, the radio must be turned on for 2 hours. Just make sure the battery is good first, then turn the key to position I with the radio switched on, close the door and come back in 2 hours or so.

    I have found the code written on top of the radio box on some 850s, just pull the radio out of the console and see if there are 4 numbers written on top. Numbers must be 1-6 only.

    A call to you local dealer parts dept can get you the code, you supply the VIN or the radio serial number. Write the number down and put it in the glove box.
