My v70 has a maddening squeak--sounds like a small bird constantly chirping--and I have not been able to find the source. I have lubricated all of the hinges, locks, and contact points (I think, unless I've missed one) with liquid spray silicone, I have taken off the tailgate trim panel and re-mounted it, I have removed the spare, jack, etc., and I have lubricated where plastic trim meets metal around the tailgate. Has anyone else had this annoying issue? Any solutions?

I had the same persistent problem--called it a 'cricket'. Found that the body-mounted steel striker for the tailgate-mounted latch has lost its plastic wrap/coating. The instant and permanantfix was to wrap it with four turns or so of electrical tape.

I had same problem ...... took awhile to find ..... turned out to be not the tailgate but the rear seat locking system as someone said previously. Discovered it was the seats when I had them folded down to carry some bulky items.

Are you sure it's the tailgate?
My V70 used to squeak in the rear CONSTANTLY! Sprayed some WD where the back part of the rear seats lock in to the latches (both left and right sides)and haven't heard it since.

I haven't had this problem with our V70, but on my 245 it was the clip that holds the cargo floor closed.

Mine rattled after I did my tailgate struts...reseated the plastic trim by where the rear pillar tweeter (no pun intended) are and seem to be good for the time being.
