VIP warranty 850 94

when I purchased me car I was offered the extended warranty and with the miles I figured that I would get it. Well I have finally come to the time to use it but there is a problem. Apparently someone didn't do their home work cause I have been denied coverage because I have too many miles on the car. Well this is an error on the warranty companies side and they need to fix it. I am very discusted with the treatment from them and they still refuse to give me what I need and I have even sent them the original odometer reading document from the purchase of the automobile. I would not recomend this warranty to anyone because you will have to go through hell to get them to even treat you like you exist.

Re: VIP warranty 850 94

Just purchased a 1998 s70glt with 48500 miles on it. Found myself in the same boat as you. Paid for a vip extended warranty at the dealer. Was then notified that the application was denied at Volvo due to this mileage change. My undestaning of the facts were that Volvo changed the mileage to a maximum 36000 miles for the purchase of a vip extended warranty on 11/1/00. I like you got caught in the middle. I purchsed the car on 11/7/00 and bought the warranty on that date. The dealer indicated that they were never notified of the change and it was brought to their attention by myself after not hearing and calling VIP Protection myself.

Needless to say I raised Holy Hell and received a fax two weeks ago indicating they were issuing a waiver and approving my application. My guess is there are many people in this boat. Keep the pressure on!

Warranty on Certified BMW 850 94

I wonder if the certified preowned BMWs have a warranty. When I purchase my 96 850 two years ago, half the reason I wanted a Volvo was because of all their certified pre-owned car adds. It turned out that the Volvo only had a 30 day warranty and I had the option to buy a warranty. I refused the warranty but liked the car and bought it anyway. I was lucky as nothing has gone wrong with the car in the last two years. I think a 20,000 used car should come with a free warranty.

Yes Certified BMWs have a warranty. But the warranty they have is just like new car warranties, it depends on the marketing conditions at the time. Warranties are NEVER free, not on new cars and not on used cars. Warranties are nothing more than insurance policies. On new cars they have gone up and down in coverage in the US (3 years to 5 years usually) depending on how the manufacturers were trying to market their cars. Interestingly, they have generally never been marketing tools in Yurrup where most warranties have remained at 12 months/12k miles for years.

Make no mistake about it the cost of the warranty is built into the cost of the car, either new or used. If you are paying extra for the warranty, then at least you know what the real cost of it is.

I know that nothing in life is free.

Who knows what the real cost of the car is, different people pay different prices. It depends on market conditions, how desperate is the salesman , how good the comsumer is at haggeling. Also just like insurance the lower the risk the lower the premium. Volvo is like getting life insurance for a person who smokes two packs a day.

To the contrary, my ins. premium got much lower - with the same company - after I substituted an 8 month old (and more expensive) Volvo for a 5-year old Maxima.

BMW would have been the other way around.

Vadim.

Re: Warranty on Certified BMW 850 94

Of course, you're not talking about car insurance... I wasn't paying attention...

Warranty is another issue, but in any case I don't think any automaker would vary the warranty cost based on the reliability of the car as a feedback factor. My guess is, it is determined during R&D/testing stage before the model goes into production.

Re: Warranty on Certified BMW 850 94

We are talking about used car warranties. The VIP warranty has changed and they will not warranty a Volvo if it has over 36000 miles. I think that when you pay 20000.00 for a used Volvo , from a Volvo dealer, it should come with a warranty , at no additional cost.

I sure agree with that

Re: VIP warranty 850 97

I'm confused. Do you mean that your VIP was ORIGINALLY for a period of time only, no mileage limit? When I bought mine about a year ago, with 50K on the car, I got 3 years/36,000 miles, so I assume I am covered until 86,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first. Am I wrong?

Re: VIP warranty 850 97

I believe they will no longer sell you a VIP warranty if you have

more then 36K miles on the car. Looks like you got in while the

getting was good.

Re: VIP warranty 850 94

The milage restrictions is a fairly new policy. Other have

posted here (recently) with similar complaints. When you

purchased your car there was probably a different milage

limit (or none at all) at that time. You are definatly not

alone in being upset by this (I think a grace period would

at least have been called for or only apply this starting with

2001 models, etc.)

Re: VIP warranty 850 95

Sounds like you've been on the board a while. I have an 855GLT with a bent rod and damaged crank and less than 100k mi. Ever heard of this?
