Replacement Gear Knob S40-V40 2000

Hi!

In South Africa, every S40 I have seen comes with an ugly plastic gear knob. I would like to change my gear knob to a Momo Anatomica Long, just to have a leather gear knob. I have a few questions though.

How do you remove the existing plastic Gear Knob?

Has anybody fitted a Momo gear knob to their Volvo S40? If so did you get the color matched? Does the bottom of the Gear knob line up properly with the top of the gear covering/pouch?

Thanks

Craig Paul

Re: Replacement Gear Knob S40-V40 2000

Hi Paul

Also from SA.

I bought a 1998 S40 as an extra I asked for a wooden momo gear knob instaed of the ugly plastic one. when they installed the Momo gear knob the old one could only be removed by braking or tearing the it. There aren't any screws that hold it in place.

The momo gearknob looks great since my interior is the brown (sand) leather and dash; but gearknob does not fully line up with the covering.

I think this is becuase the gearknob installation was fitted too snuggly.

Re: Replacement Gear Knob S40-V40 2000

Hi Riaz,

Thanks for the feedback. I purchased a Momo Superanatomico from Autoquip in Randburg. I took them about 20 minutes to fit it. My original gearknob did not need to be broken, the installer just twisted it off. The colour does not match, but I am not complaining. The new gear knob feels great compared to the original. To get the pouch to the right height I just turned it over the gearknob and used some high quality tape to 'tie' it in the right position.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Hapy new year.

Craig
