The K&N Thing Can End ......I Think S70 98

If someone would come out with an unbiased test that would show air flow rates among filter brands , then for the harder test , particle removal or air cleaning ability we might stop seeing all these post(But I doubt it). I was at AutoZone today and saw a new shipment of K&N air filters. If you read the back of the K&N box they will claim that their filter is the best filter on the market in both air flow rates AND filtering ability. Go to the Amsoil website and guess what........ Amsoil claims their filter is the best of both worlds. The K&N box even showed the Amsoil filter as dead last in air flow rate. While I'm at it , should I use a pure synthetic oil or semi-synthetic........oh BTW what about that Slick 50 or that ProLong stuff ?

      Snake oils...... S70 98

OK, but read this even if you're thinking about using any of those BS products:

Looks like "the big 3" were finally busted. Too bad there's still a few zillion left to weed out and more suckers biting on them everyday.

Most of them survive because there's many people with junkers who will try any bottle remedy in the hope that "just maybe" it'll help their tired old POS engine, especially if it's being sold to some unsuspecting buyer and $3 is far cheaper than an engine overhaul.

ONLY use Slick 50 or the likes if the Volvo you drive belongs to your mother-in-law. That is, if you want to ruin the engine for sure.

Heard so many horror stories about these oil additives first hand!

    Happy holidays to all,

    Vadim.

#1.Stick with OEM engine air filters....and oil filers.

#2.Go with a full synthetic Mobil-1, Amsoil, etc...

#3.Dont mess with the snake oil....

    #4.Enjoy your hoilday!!

I agree 100 percent. I got 260,000 miles out of a MBZ turbodiesel by doing exactly that, and still got 5K for it on a trade for my current brick.

Re: The K&N Thing Can End ......I Think S70 98

A friend of mine who owns a new Mercedes convertible and a sedan switched to K&N airfilters on both and said he felt the power gains. I'm planning to switch on my 2000 S70 SE..needs all the help it can get in the power department...

Has anyone tried a cold air induction system ?... I also have a 2000 Civic EX coup and seems quite a few people make that switch on them... Seems AEM makes the best one and they use K&N airfilters... power increase on a Civic is something like 5 or more HP ... should be more on an S70 ..

Don't count on getting much of any HP gains with just a simple intake swap. The "gain" is more psychological than anything due to the increased intake and induction noise that these things make. Realistically, expect 1 or 2 HP gain with most of these setups. Also, cold air induction systems only work well when they're designed properly and believe me, a lot of them out there on the market aren't well designed.

The best CAI on the market is AEM.. comes with a K&N filter and also comes with a valve that prevents water from entering the engine should you run through deep water.. From the dyno tests I've seen for Honda's.. (I own a 2000 Civic EX coupe), HP gains at the real wheels seems to be about 4 or 5.. On a higher power engine, I would suspect it would be more.. I haven't seen any dyno tests on a Volvo for a CAI though..
