Serious Emergency Help Needed!!!!! Save my family's Christmas trip!!! 850 1995

Just went out to start the car, fill up with gas and check everything over before our 6 hour trip early tomorrow. The car started just fine. It's 6 or 7 degrees out and it had not been started yet today, but ran about 100 miles yesterday for errands and the last minute present thing.

The check engine light comes on and the "Winter Mode" arrow blinks on the panel as well as down below on the shift area (where economy and sport are). I took the chance and drove it around the block, but it would not stop blinking and stayed in what felt like "Winter Mode". Popped the hood, but what do I know? Turned the car off and back on just fine. Has sythetic oil in it and was just changed. Has BP 87 Octane in it. Over 4/5 full.

HELP!!!!! I don't want to drive the 85 Cavalier with 200k on it.

PLEASE SAVE MY CHRISTMAS TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your PNP switch is more than likely acting up. Use the instructions at Bay13 to read all the codes in the A-1 socket (transmission) then erase the codes. Ratchet your shifter from P to L 15-20 times and in most cases you will be good for a while.

Rich,

Thanks! I had just jumped on there. I hope I figure this out. I'm not a mechanic, but am willing to learn. Thanks again. I'll let you know the results. Cm
